There are plenty of ways to get pictures from your Mac up to Flickr; among them the 'official' and free tool, Flickr Uploadr, which is now being revised to version 3. The second beta version of v3 is out for download. This uploader is an open-source project, so anyone interested in the source code can download that along with the compiled app.

New in v3 of the uploader tool is the capability of tagging, sorting and setting permissions on multiple photos prior to the upload to Flickr, along with a preflight resize to reduce data transfer and help keep you under your upload threshold. The beta currently has a menu display problem under Leopard but seems to be otherwise functional and speedy (Christina noted that it's dramatically faster than the web-based upload tool). Get those turkey pictures online!

I'm really thankful setting up a webpages is so easy these days.

I found myself unable to access my servers yesterday and remembered some notice about maintenance from 3am-7am. Perhaps a port (or something) had remained closed but there is no one to help until Monday!

The International Coastal Cleanup is at hand and we try to post results and photos immediately. The Zone Captains get data off the participants so that everyone's "homework" is over and people like to see photos of their eventful day online.

So this morning, I turned to Wordpress: coastalcleanup.wordpress.com. Later I'll insert a feed widget into the main webpage at coastalcleanup.nus.edu.sg

As you might have imagined from the colours, I've been playing the new template options.

See the "recent comments" addition in the "Cycling in Singapore" blog. Nice! Kenneth suggested it in the "Friends of Yesterday" mailing list and I tried it out. Had to clear off spam first though!

What I need?

What do they need?

A Gmail account - for Blogger, GMail functions
A Yahoo account - for Flickr principally

A blog (Blogger) account with three types of posts, with images and links.
A laptop if they have one (think Jada does)

It's the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research, situated at the floor below the Science Library. It's a quaint little place -- it's quite nice, really! -- tucked quietly in the obscurity of NUS. Or maybe I was the only one who didn't know such a place existed.

It's pretty resourceful, I would say, for a museum its size. There are hundreds of specimens and the little room is jam-packed with morsels of information, some of which so bizarre. Some specimens will make your stomachs turn; many others will just cause the hairs on your skin to stand on end.

Using ecto

With so many blogger accounts, it makes sense to use a desktop interface like ecto. Especially since The Biology Refugia will be updated more frequently.

Images can be uploaded quickly using Interarchy droplets, I suppose though referencing will be a little tiresome at first.
